Life’s Race

IF YOU DESIRE TO RACE
THEN RACE AGAINST TIME
OR WITH THE PAST YOU
RACE IN TO THE FUTURE
RACE AGAINST THE GUSTS,
WAVES & OCEAN’S THRUSTS
RACE AGAINST THE NIGHT,
THE DYING OF THE LIGHT
CHASE THE CRIMSON SUNSETS
RACE TO THE MOUNTAINS
AND THE END OF NOWHERE
RACE AGAINST THE SUN’S RAYS
IF AT ALL YOU WISH TO RACE

OR MOVE AT YOUR OWN PACE
GIVE UP THE RUN & CHASE
STILL YET, YOU SHALL FACE
GUSTS, LIGHT & SUN’S RAYS
SPACE WILL CHANGE SLOWLY
TIME WILL DILATE, COALESCE
LET NIGHT LEAD TO LIGHT
PAIN WILL TEACH YOU FIGHT
MOUNTAINS SHALL BEND
THE OCEAN WILL TEND
COLD WAVES UNTO YOUR FEET
IF TIRED & MUST YOU WAIT
ON THIS ROAD, START ANYTIME
IT WILL NEVER BE TOO LATE!

The Cosmos

I am a little whirlpool,

in a violent stream

Choked on my own

silent screams.

Moving through the crowd,

forlorn, for desires

I barter my dreams

My eyes ragged,

And so, is my jeans

So I Masquerade in

shady themes

I am a dark wave

shooting space.

So anachronistic in

These times extreme

Riding light through

space & time.

My soul is splitting

right at the seam.

SHIVA IN YOU

Atop the Kailasha
amidst snow and cold
sat a hermit
with his eyes closed
indifferent to differences
unaware of appearances
abiding by no laws
never taking a pause
from his deep meditation
lost in deep contemplation
clad in tiger skin
all animals his kin
a snake garland
ash on forehead
destroyer and life-giver
the hermit was Shiva
rejected and an outcast
never dwells on his past
neither a teacher, nor a preacher
never thinking of the future
he is guileless and tough
lost and unbound
if you look hard enough
within you, he may be found
to be like Shiva
all you need to do
is open that third eye
and take a view
if you can
wield his trident
strike down every impediment
which stands between you
and the Shiva in you.

Kannappa – The Stout Devout

He became one of the sixty-three

Nayanmars, the stout devouts of Shiva.

A hunter from the banks of Kalahasti,

Kannappa a hunter, a devout, a giver.

One day while on his hunt,

he found a stone divine,

put all his faith in it,

leaving everything aside.

Kannappa’s God was his friend,

for whom he carried water in his mouth.

And shared what he hunted

with a caring heart.

Lord accepted it all,

but one day , to test his faith,

Shook the earth,

the temple collapsing under its weight.

When all priests ran out to save their lives,

Kannappa ran for what lay inside,

He covered it with his body,

the falling stones littered aside.

One day he saw the lord’s eye bleed,

so he took out his own to fix it.

When the second eye started to bleed,

he marked the bleeding eye with his foot

and set upon pulling out his own.

The story goes, he attained nirvana

Stayed in bliss day and night.

Kannappa had met Shiva

and all was now set right.
